I came across this today and thought some of you would remember hearing about it.
Ever since the start of the "Cold War" America has been building weapons at a rate like never before. For years now, at least since Vietnam, the military industrial complex that at one time many of us protested has had it's hands around the throat of our citizen government. We can see proof of this from the things that happened during the Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II administrations with the massive increase in defense spending and procurement.
President Eisenhower warned us that this would happen if we allowed it to.....and we did.
This next one is more proof that it has happened.

Wow. Not only do we manufacture the reasons for war, but we also provide weapons to all parties involved.
The price is high for all of us in terms of our tax dollars, but who is paying the worst price?
Our military servicemen and servicewomen, their families, and civilians (i.e., "collateral" damage) caught in the cross-fire.
Madness. Sheer madness.
skyewriter - We never paid any attention to what Ike was trying to tell us. Because of the deaf ears we turned towards his words, we have become a nation of war creators.
Ike would have been called a socialist by the current clowns running The GOP (into the ground). Have you watched the documentary Why We Fight? It starts with Ike's warning and then moves throughout history to show how his prediction came true.
And there's no way of stopping it that I know of. Congress could but they serve their corporate masters. We're so screwed.
I read that bit from Eisenhower (a general, and we didn't listen!) several years ago. It's all just nauseating.
Agi - Yes, he would have been called a socialist, but then so would Lincoln.
No, I haven't seen that. Is it a full length, or is there a link to a video?
Riot Kitty - It IS very nauseating.
One Fly - I'm afraid you're right. We, as a country, have allowed this to get out of hand....and I fear there is no turning back.
When Ike originally wrote the speech, he warned against the "military/industrial/congressional" complex, but advisors told him to take out the last part and he did.
Ike did NOTHING, himself, to impede the growth of the National Security State, and indeed was one of its earliest authors.
Nobody who gets to be president would be there if they were NOT totally, utterly, completely in the pocket of the elites who own the country...
