From the War Room at Salon:
Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., is a dyed-in-the-wool conservative. As such, he's one of those people who's just fine with the shift to the right that his party has taken, even though it did mean the defection of Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter. And in an interview with CNN's Rick Sanchez today, DeMint did his best to put a happy face on Specter's move, which led to this exchange:
SANCHEZ: You know, [Specter] seems to be saying that Republicans are making it very difficult for other Republicans to win because -- and he said this on several times. You tell me what you think of it. You're shrinking the electorate to an extreme to a point where a regular Republican can't win. What do you make of that argument?
DEMINT: Oh, that's quite the opposite. We're seeing across the country right now that the biggest tent of all is the tent of freedom. And what we need to do as Republicans is convince Americans that freedom can work in all areas of their life for every American, whether it's education or health care or creating jobs.
SANCHEZ: What the hell does that mean? I mean, the biggest tent is freedom? Freedom? I mean, you gotta do better than that.

He means a big tent for hypocrites, homophobes and racists. But he can't say what he's thinking.
In fact, that's so stupid and fucked up, it's like saying that Nazism was compatible with Communism, if only those Communists had learned to get along. Idiot.
Idiot is right. If ya ain't got nothin' to say, STFU.
AWQM - It's like he thinks that the Party of No owns the word "freedom."
I just don't see how anyone in their right mind could associate the Rethuglicans with freedom with all they have done the last eight years to take freedom and justice away from not only we Americans but also the rest of the world.
Gordon - Agreed! All the loudmouth Rethugs need to STFU.
It's a big white "freedom" tent they made when they sowed together their white hoods and robes...
In the world of today's Republicans things are what you say they are; reality never enters the picture.
DeMint is probably one of the worst of the blind leading the blind. A true nogoodnik for Jebus.
skyewriter - Wouldn't surprise me one bit.
Jacob - If they say the same lie over and over long enough people (with few brains) will eventually believe it as the "gospel" truth.
Bush said the word 'freedom' over and over and over, but never defined it. By the repub standard, the word 'freedom' always seemed to mean republican. Jacob is right. Reality never enters the picture with them...ever.
Nancy - Yes, Jacob is right, there is no reality with the Rethugs.
All these comments got me to thinking - Bush, Cheney and gang lived in a world of their own - their own "reality." I think this is clear from Cheney's recent comments about torture and its effectiveness.
But it goes way back when he insisted there were WMD in Iraq; when he insisted an informant (who had even then been thoroughly debunked) was giving good information.
Or, and here's another option: Bush, Cheney and gang are sociopaths - unable to tell the difference between right and wrong. So, if they determine we must go into Irag to save the oil fields for their friends in the oil business, well, what the hell, do it. What difference does it make if we destroy a country, kill hundreds of thousands of innocents; drive hundreds of thousands from the country; lost over 4,000 of our own troops; and spent a trillion dollars?
If that isn't pathological, I don't know what is!
Jacob - They definitely had their own sense of reality....kinda like the Twilight Zone or Outer Limits.
Republicans: always pitching tents and getting caught with it later in the men's room by a cop.
ZIRGAR - Heh...there does seem to be more and more of them getting caught there. Maybe they think that's better than being caught with a hooker.
