POLICE STATE, USA

"Police State", a statement that was used quit offen during the Vietnam protests of the 1960's. Haven't heard that statement mentioned much since then.

Until now. Ever since 9/11, the Constitution has been taking some big hits. As citizens, our rights have slowly been eroded by the so called Patriot Act. The FBI and Police now have the ability to arrest anyone for no reason at all.

The following is an article I found at Information Clearinghouse. Follow the link and read the rest and tell me what you think has happened and what we, as patriotic citizens, need to do.

The Police State Is Closer Than You Think

Police states are easier to acquire than Americans appreciate.

By Paul Craig Roberts

President Bush claims the power to set aside habeas corpus and to dispense with warrants for arrest and with procedures that guarantee court appearance and trial without undue delay. Today in the US, the executive branch claims the power to arrest a citizen on its own initiative and hold the citizen indefinitely. Thus, Americans are no longer protected from arbitrary arrest and indefinite detention.

I'm glad you are writing about this. I was horrified when watching the news the other day re: the NYC bomb scare. They showed people casually pulled aside by cops and cops checking their bags. WTF? Now this can just happen any time? What would have happened to any person who didn't let them look? Arrest?

It's getting really fucked up.

Helen,
Arrest would be just the start. Then would come the charges starting with failure to obey an officer. They would probably throw in resisting arrest, suspicion of terrorist activities, and more. Who knows when someone would be able to have legal representation, or how long they would be locked up before seeing a judge.

Yes, it's really fucked up and it's only gonna get worse. Much, much worse.

My mom and I always joke about my phone being tapped since I started my blog in February. When I check out my stats counter and see that Halliburton, the Justice Dept, and I actually had someone from inside the WH visit my blog, I think I am justified in being a little worried. I think any of us Dems, liberals, and progressives have ample reason to wear the tin foil hat. I put NOTHING past these soul-less pricks.

Tina,
I know what ya mean. I've had a visit from the Sargeant at Arms in the US Senate, one from some procurement office for the Army, the Navy, and one from someone at the Pentagon. So far nobody's come a knockin' to see who or what I am.

I wouldn't say be worried, more like cautious. And yes; Dems, liberals, progressives, and even socialists all have reason to be wary.

Via,
Sounds like you've got one smart daughter-in-law there. I hope she's proud of her Mum-in-law.
